Worcester County is the largest county in the state of Massachusetts. As of the 2010 census, the county had a population of 798,552. The history of the county is quite rich; the county was formed from the eastern portion of colonial Hampshire County: the western portion of the original Middlesex County and the extreme western portion of the original Suffolk County.
As of July 1, 1998, Worcester County lost all county level government as Massachusetts state agencies assumed all county functions.
