Middlesex County is the most populous county in New England. The Massachusetts General Court, created it on May 10, 1643, since then it continues to be a county that New Englanders flock too, as of 2010 the census sited that the population had grown to 1,503,085. On July 11, 1997, the Massachusetts State Legislature abolished Middlesex County as a governmental entity due primarily to the county’s insolvency. Middlesex Country continues to exist as a geographic body. With over fifty-four towns within the county, Middlesex serves to be one of the most beloved counties in Massachusetts.
Middlesex initially contained the towns and neighborhoods: Charlestown, Cambridge, Watertown, Sudbury, Concord, Woburn, Medford, Wayland and Reading, but has now exponentially grown. With the growth of people in the county, the number and diversity of crimes, have also gone up. The criminal courts in Middlesex County include the Middlesex County Superior Court and the following divisions: The Northeast Superior Court which serves the counties of Essex, Middlesex and the municipalities of Acton, Arlington, Ayer, Bedford, Billerica, Boxborough, Cambridge, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Concord, Dracut, Dunstable, Everett, Groton, Lincoln, Littleton, Lowell, Maynard, Newton, North Reading, Pepperell, Reading, Shirely, Stow, Tewksbury, Tyngsborough and Westford. Framingham District Court, which serves the municipalities of Ashland, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Sudbury and Wayland. The Somerville District Court serves the municipalities of Medford and Somerville. The Waltham District Court serves the municipalities of Waltham, Watertown and Weston.
