Massachusetts General Laws c. 265, s. 24 concerns itself with the offense of Assault with Intent to Commit Rape. The law provides that anyone who assaults a person with the intent to commit a rape shall be punished by the following:
Any second or subsequent offense shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for life or for any term of years.

A conviction of this crime will result in imprisonment in the state prison for not less than 5 years. This is a mandatory minimum sentence. Any second or subsequent offense shall result in imprisonment in the state prison for at least 20 years, or for life or any terms of years.
